Classrooms are small, with no more than eight children in a room, and instruction is highly individualized. Much of the instruction focuses on teaching specific skills. Students are encouraged to participate in activities to whatever extent possible. This concept, referred to as partial participation, is an important curricular force. Lessons are designed so that every child is included in every activity.
