March 24 COVID-19 Update

March 24, 2020

Dear WPSBC Community:

We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy.

Several inquiries have been received regarding possible contact with the individual reported
to have suspected contraction of COVID-19. Within hours of sharing yesterday’s information
of one suspected case, we became aware of a handful of other possible cases– one has been
tested negative, others are being tested and have not yet received results. We expect similar
reports of possible cases in the days ahead.

We had anticipated we could reasonably notify those who may have been in contact with
individuals who have suspected COVID-19. Given the nature of our work and frequent
interactions between staff and students, exposure is indeed possible to have occurred and
unfortunately it is not feasible to identify those who might have been in contact with
suspected cases. Therefore, we believe the most responsible course of action is to notify
every member of our School community.

Please continue to follow the guidelines of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and
the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) and follow the Governor’s stay-at-home
mandate. We ask that you monitor your symptoms and remain vigilant. If you are
experiencing symptoms of concern, contact your healthcare provider.

The well-being of our WPSBC family – our students and all of you who serve them - remains
our greatest concern and highest priority. Please continue to communicate any concerns or
questions with us.

Wishing you all the best of health.

Sincerely,

Dr. Heidi Ondek
Executive Director and Superintendent
