Emergency Notification System

In accordance with new legal regulations, all companies or organizations that operate a mass notification system (such as SMS messaging and similar services) are required to disclose how they handle personal data, including how long that data is retained. Additionally, individuals must be informed about how they can opt out of receiving future communications.

Please see below the language that is in the hiring documents that individuals on the emergency team would receive in regard to opting into SMS:

I opt-in to receive SMS communications from Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children, WPSBC, and leadership emergency staff.  As a requirement of employment, I must carry a mobile device to receive emergency communications.  All information, name, telephone number, etc. is not shared nor retained except as required by Local, State and Federal law.  When a WPSBC, leadership staff member is no longer a part of the emergency team or leaves employment of WPSBC, their mobile device is removed from the emergency communications systems and will no longer receive calls, SMS messages, etc. Users can also reply “STOP,” and they will no longer receive SMS messages from WPSBC. This is considered opting out of SMS messages from WPSBC.  The WPSBC only retains data from the emergency communications systems as required by Local, State and Federal law.  Messaging frequency may vary.  Message and data rates may apply.
