Important WPSBC COVID-19 Update

Dear WPSBC School Community

As I am sure you are aware, COVID-19 case counts in Allegheny County and the surrounding region have continued to climb steadily.  Our mitigation efforts as outlined in our Health and Safety Plan are working; however, there is a significantly higher risk to the health and safety of our students and staff under these current conditions. Therefore, in an effort to proactively prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is my recommendation that we revert to temporary remote instruction beginning Monday, November 16th.

The school will remain open this week, through and including Friday, November 13th, unless conditions warrant an earlier closure.  We will plan to reopen following the Thanksgiving holiday on Tuesday, December 1st.

We are overjoyed that our school community has remained healthy, enabling us to stay open for nearly seven consecutive weeks. We attribute our success to everyone’s unwavering adherence to our Health and Safety Plan.  Please continue to take these health and safety measures:

  • Wear a mask in public and around people not living in your household
  • Wash hands or hand sanitize often for at least 20 seconds
  • Maintain physical distancing of 6 feet when around others not living in your household
  • Stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms

We recognize that remote learning comes with increased challenges for families and students.  Please be assured of our commitment to continue to provide whatever resources and support are necessary to ensure the very best possible outcomes for each child. We wish you and your family good health and remain hopeful that we may all return safely and very soon.

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Heidi Ondek

Executive Director and Superintendent
