This presentation will discuss the difficult task that parents have of meeting the needs of a child with visual impairment while taking care of themselves. We will provide practical tools and techniques to assist with realistic goal planning and self-care. Parents will develop a deeper understanding of their own emotions and how they impact their parenting choices and the ability to be a healthy role model for their family. Professionals will gain insight and tools to assist parents along their journey.
About the Presenter
Sheila Adamo, LCSW, CADC, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor. She currently provides individual, couple, and family therapy in private practice and is the co-owner of Building Parent Connections which provides education, guidance, and support to parents of children with special needs. Ms. Adamo also works with the National Organization of Albinism and Hypopigmentation and Lighthouse Guild to provide programs for parents and grandparents. Ms. Adamo lives with her husband and their four children, one of which has a visual impairment, in Naperville, Illinois.
