The project represents a significant milestone in WPSBC’s strategic vision to support individuals with blindness, visual impairment and other disabilities throughout their lives. This development aligns with the School’s mission to nurture the unique abilities of individuals with visual impairments and its vision to be a global leader in education and advocacy.
This project will be a model for programs both nationally and globally. Located two blocks away from the School’s Oakland location, the North Neville project involves the renovation of the property at 514 North Neville Street, which will become the new home for WPSBC’s Learning Adventures for the Visually Impaired (LAVI) Adult Program with expanded services for individuals throughout the Commonwealth.
Key Highlights of the North Neville Project:
- Expansion of adult programming
- Enhanced facilities and respite care
- Enhanced employment opportunities
Dr. Rachelle Rectenwald, WPSBC Assistant Superintendent and Project Lead, said, “There remains a need for additional support and services post-graduation. Our state leaders remain invested in supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and recognize the need for respite providers. This philosophy aligns with our School’s mission, and we are honored to be a part of the solution. The North Neville adult services project is a unique project and a testament to our commitment to evolving with the needs of those we serve and paving the way for other organizations. We have been working with local and state elected officials and appreciate their support. We are excited about the opportunities this new facility will bring and look forward to continuing our mission of providing exceptional support and education for individuals with blindness, visual impairment and other disabilities.”
